Fingering Weight Lace Shawl Pattern

This beginner-friendly shawl pattern is perfect for using up a single skein of fingering weight yarn. With delicate lace elements, it's a beautiful accessory for any season.

Materials

  • Yarn: Fingering weight yarn, 1 skein (approximately 400 yards/100 grams)
  • Needles: US 6 (4 mm) straight or circular needles
  • Tapestry needle
  • Scissors

Gauge

20 stitches x 24 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch

Instructions

  1. Cast on 3 stitches.
  2. Row 1: Knit all stitches.
  3. Row 2: K1, yo, knit to end of row.
  4. Repeat Row 2 until you have reached desired size or almost run out of yarn, ending with a wrong side row.
  5. Next row: K1, yo, k1, yo, knit to end of row.
  6. Next row: K1, purl to last st, k1.
  7. Repeat these 2 rows until you have just enough yarn left to bind off.
  8. Bind off all stitches knitwise.
  9. Weave in ends and block your shawl to open up the lace pattern.
